Topic 2: Campus Radio

I like the idea of having a LB radio station. I think it would work and be cool for me because there is so much good music out there and i'm sure many students would be okay with some music and LB hosts on a station around the campus.
I think the LBCC radio station should adopt the idea of podcats of students and athletes to allow many people to listen in live and hear what they have to say, and also able to listen to on our phones wirelessly
The students could fund the radio station by maybe joining sides with a certain foundation or children hospital where a certain percentage of proceeds go to that foundation. They could then use that logo or foundations promotions to help boots the idea of the radio station and show people that the money is helping a small new radio group and also going to help kids in need. Both any amount of money can go along ways.

Topic 1: Music Influence

As a person who loves rap music and music I would say isn't the cleanest or comes by with the best influential lyrics, about a year ago my grandma came into my room while my friends and I were playing music out loud. The song was not appropriate for her ears with out a doubt and when she walked in a panicked and threw the speaker on the ground which turned off and also broke. No idea why I thought of doing this. I was trying to protect my grandmas ears and brain from the harsh lyrics of a song by Rich The Kid.
The experience from this event really for a second made me realize that in my grandmas defense this type of music nowadays gives off a way different message than music from her 20s. Rap music now really influences people the wrong way and can make people change the way they are just from simple lyrics. Which is what i knew she would have said if i didn't turn it off/spike my Bose speaker on the ground.
I am a rap music lover with favorites tracks from Travis Scott, Paris, Lil baby, YG, ASAP Rocky. Though i have seen YG twice in concert, I will be seeing Travis Scott in Portland this December.

Topic 2: Magazines

Three magazines that I read and have been reading for many years are Vice, Complex, ESPN. These three magazines display lots of talk about underground stories and phenomenons, fashion and icons of the rap world and whats hot in today, and lots and lots of sports. I like these magazines because they help show what I like in the world today, growing up iv always been someone who loves sports, fashion and music, and knowing things about the people I look up to and weird things in our world.  When looking for certain magazines I look for something that I like to do or like to understand more so I am more of knowledge. If a rap artist drops a new album, I would look in complex to find out if they talk about their opinions on the album along with about the artist so before listening to their music I can know about them more as a person and I can judge their music as a positive effect from maybe a critic in the magazine saying other wise.

Products and advertisements I see a lot of in these magazines are Nike products, Old spice deodorant, fashion wear, movie advertisements, and many food/drink advertisements. What these publications say about me as a consumer is that I do consume most of these advertisements and that they are aimed at the right people including my self.

Topic 1: Banned Books & Your Bookshelf

I am not much of a "reader" per say but I was surprised to see that there are some books on the list that I have indeed read.

Few are:
To Kill a Mockingbird written by Harper Lee
The Holy Bible
Captain Underpants (series), by Dav Pilkey

There are a few other books I have read over the years on the list that I did not list but these few really surprised me. I read these books all growing up, including to kill a mockingbird in 7th grade. I have gained a lot of knowledge from The Bible and To Kill a Mockingbird and am curious to why they think these books could be harmful to society.

I think it is okay to limit access to some books in public schools along with various materials for school purposes because they can display things that students maybe at a age don't need to read about and or have knowledge of until they are older to understand. I don't agree with doing it in local public libraries or anything with the public it self. People are people you cant understand everyone, the stories and pictures that some books display are helpful to people that you never knew could benefit from.

"The Autobiography" by Gucci Mane, "The rose that grew from concrete" by Tupac Shakur
These two you would find in my mini library at home. What these two books tell about me is I am highly interested in people who have gone through struggle to get on top. These books show a glimpse of who I am in a very very small sense along with my ambitions drive to want success in my life.

Blog project #2: Movie, Remember The Titians

Topic #4 -- Media Product Review

Movie-Remember The Titians

After searching through many good movies out there and trying to figure out what movie fits me and this post best, I decided to choose the all time great movie Remember The Titians. I chose this movie because its part of my childhood along with something everyone can relate to in the movie world and real life experiences. It stands out because it brings anyone who watches it closer. From racial issues at a young age, to the excitement of Friday night football games, along with showing that no matter what, family is family.

The subject of this blog post is to express the feelings this movie brings out to people from all colors and races along with the great true story the movie follows. The director Boaz Yakin and producer Jerry Bruckheimer did a amazing job picking a perfect cast that most people either knew or could relate to in some way not just characters no one knew like Denzel Washington, and Bill Patton as the two main characters. Just these two actors alone have racked up many famous awards. Denzel him self has earned three Golden Globes, a Tony Award, and two Academy Awards. Both these actors are just few of many greats in this film and most all of them from this movie have been in multiple other films and TV shows that are big around the U.S. According to Deadspin.com, the movie Remember The Titians has grossed over $478 million dollars in sales and made in 2008 a topping $115 million in box office sales alone.
The movie starts out as a school coming together to combine whites and blacks into one school while also hiring a first ever black head high school football coach. The movie goes on to progress the fight against society hating on the head coach, Denzel Washington (aka Herman Boone in the movie) on being a black coach of a football team along with having black players when in this day in age wasn't the right picture from an outside perspective. The Titans battle all white schools trying to make a point that race has no play in how good a school is and that everyone is equal. As the race ware goes on so does a tragic accident that leaves the leading caption of the paralyzed from the waist down! (To find out more I suggest u watch the movie you will not be disappointed!)

This American sports drama produced by Mr. Jerry Buckheimer does not connect to his other work as he has done many great movies and TV such as; Top Gun, The Rock, CSI Miami, Cold Case, Black hawk down, and many more. What all these are similar to is great films. All of his work really connects with the public and allow people of all ages to attract their full attention to his show and movies. The genres he does are all different and place at the top at all levels. From sports dramas, to great action drama films, he has covered more distance in movie/TV show genres than I could name.

In the past century, people have been trying to express the important's of equality. This movie touches on it in the perfect manner. It's important because it shows both sides of white/black people and shows them becoming together when they both are at need. This is reflected heavily in our culture targets the audience of the youth and young adults. Racism shouldn't matter and should be left alone after all the years of hate from whites to blacks. It should not matter who's what, especially on a football field. In the movie there is a moment of example where during a practice Garry, a white young man who leads the strong side of the defense yells out strong side, this is then reciprocated from the second defensive caption of the defense Julius, who is a black young man leading the weak side. They go back and forth as Gary yells "strong side" to Julius. Julius then yells back after looking at him in a puzzled look "left side". In this moment it is obvious and proud that these two after always butting heads finally show a sense of pride to be with one another on the same team wearing the same jersey but different color skin.

According to professional critics of rottentomatoes.com, they gave the movie a pretty decent score of 73% out of 100%. Richard Schickel of rotten explains that "the film is surely in the right place". He goes on to say, "its tough to try and bring slavery into play in a movie of sports but they did a job well enough to win me over". To me this film is strong in many aspects or mostly all. The movie isn't filled with action of blood and fists but it strong climbs up and up to the point where you watch to see what happens next. I agree with rotten critics in that the movie is good end of story. Personally, it will always be one of my favorite movies till the end of time. The standard of the movie is up there with the work the producer does, clearly like I stated before the numbers it did was quit well. One weak point in this movie that has my attention is that the movie doesn't show enough background of where everyone is from and who they really are. In my opinion I would have liked to know the background more of the main characters and what role they grew up in and how they managed to all meet at the same school to intergrade.

In my generation social media is what everyone uses to create a fan bas or help show who you are and what success you have earned in your life. For older people and the generation many years above, they didn't grow up or have to use that platform to show who they truly are or how much they are worth. People say nothing really nothing but good critiques about the movie and main characters along with the production team of the movie. Since the movie has came out it has done good numbers and is projected to for years to come. Since the movie came out quit a few years ago there is less critiques and haters because during the time of its release there really wasn't social media. I have since perchance the movie many times on other platforms from the first time seeing it many years ago as a kid. My brother who is close to age to me really enjoys this movie, along with my mother and father. Being a athletic family and having all the males in my family retired from the high school football days, it becomes almost a bonding family night to watch the movie together and to look back on the times we all played football.

In conclusion, from my knowledge of knowing the movie from not looking into it I never realized the amount of time and energy was put in to make a movie of this impact. What I learned from reading over comments and critiques is that movies are picked apart piece by piece. You cant hide from the critiques! But the movie has deeper meaning even than what I thought. Blacks and whites shouldn't have to be recognized in different categories, were all the same. This movie helped my family an I become closer just by spending 113 minutes of our time watching a movie. This movie will forever be something I enjoy watching and I know you will to.

Topic 2: Fake News

TOPIC 2: FAKE NEWS -- President Trump has made “fake news” a daily topic for discussion. But the president’s definition is different from the textbook definition, which used to refer almost exclusively to satirical TV shows such as “The Daily Show” and publications such as The Onion.
I agree some what to him calling it fake news because not everyone knows whats going on with what he does because he is the president and i'm sure they cant figure everything out. But I also do not agree because he isnt the best president or the best person around. I think he calls things fake news because he thinks it will go very against him if it is true so the aspect of him calling it fakes news give it a sense of who knows whats true and whats not. "the unmistakable signs that Trump had once again exercised his ability to steer a conversation through simple repetition of whatever it is he is selling" (CNN article). Trump trying to steer away from real conversation directed at him and trying to turn it into selling some BS.
I think the stand he is taking and the things he is saying in outbreaks is truly hurting journalists and going against what he should stand for as the president, I mean.. he the president for goodness sakes!
ABC Article: https://abcnews.go.com/Politics/trump-roll-eyes-asked-presidents-shocking-interview/story?id=56560919
Article about trump from ABC News, he explains that "I didn't criticize the prime minister. I have a lot of respect for the prime minister," Trump then said in the article that they did not include his comments of "praise for May", and suggesting the White House may release a full recording of the interview. I think trump was just saying how it is from this quote about what he was talking about towards the prime minister. The media way have changed and made him look a different way than what truly he was going towards.

Topic 1:

Where I get my source of local news from is friends, family, and social media (instagram & twitter pages like @CNN and ect..). Local news is important to me in my daily life but maybe not as important to others because of the way my life flows Its not revolved around the aspects of other expect places I go or things I am doing per say. Its tough nowadays knowing if things are credible but I think it is when it is because of who tells me it and how big of a story or idea the news is.

I am not subscribed to any news sources because im not willing to pay money to find news that doesn't concern me or cause me in my life to stress over. I think its not worth my time and money at the age I am and the source i have around me to pay for such sources.

On a scale from 1-5 I would honestly say around a 3.5 - 4. Reason being is because its tough to find out everything and to always be in the loop, there is so many opininons nowadays instead of straight factual things spoken so its hard to fully grasp true facts rather than everyones opinions. It is important to me to be informed on current events and knowing whats happening but its tough to say what I really go to, to hear true facts. I trust many sources such as @ESPN for sports information because they only talk about sports and update what ever is happening because thats all they focus on.

Week 5: Topic 2

WikiLeaks

In my opinion, the actions in which WikiLeaks uses its material is good but also irresponsible. The reason why I think its good is because it helps show the truth per say, the secret information that is all around the world can be used for good use along with showing the true potential of government and other things that we are fed the opposite. But, it is used irresponsibly because they just shoot the info out with no back up or explanation. They are choosing to throw out information that could alternate big decisions that could lead to mass hatred from the people.

I feel this way because it really is useful. Nowadays you never really know whats true and whats false. I like how they are trying to prove points and expose the unknown but they should do it in a more organized way.

In the Ted Talk, from 4:30 - 8 minutes, there is a clip shown of the military shooing down and killing innocent civilians along with reporters that had nothing to do with any attack or any problem what so ever. The video I thought was good to release and to bring to life the deaths of those innocent people but in my mind it was released in a non responsible manner. I am no news reporter. I do not know what releasing it in a good responsible manner would be, but just throwing that video out there to the public starts a lot of conversation that they them selfs, WikiLeaks, doesn't have to worry about back lash.

I think the way the worlds going with access to any information and the freedom of expression and to be creative in each persons own way is good and is helping the world rather than setting it back. Moving forward no doubt.

For example, If anyone ever need help with spelling a word, learning how to do your taxes, or even buy a car, all you have to do is google search! The internet is unlimited with information that anyone can access. If you can find a device that supports the internet then you have the world in the palm of your hands.

Week 5: Topic 1

After watching the documentary, what I found most interesting was that really there is nothing people can do to catch music makers and artists that remake "mash" artists original songs into something that original of its own but sound the same, in a way. But there are so many people out there trying to catch these people who do this thing such as "copy right" and to fine them as criminals. For example in the video at around 22 minutes, a guy is explaining that this all needs to be resolved and that this is criminal action. In my mind today, this isn't the case what so ever. Everyone in this day an age does this whether people like it or not and it has become such a expectant to people that its the way we live in todays societies around the world. For me, I wasn't fortunate enough years ago to have money for apple music and to buy dollar too two dollar songs off of iTunes. I went the rout of illegal downloading music using different sources to allow me to have these songs that I couldn't afford. I knew it was illegal but so many people I knew were doing it, it just became the norm.

One question I have about about copy right is why is it still targeting people who show support and try and create music for their own self but also to help promote the original artists? for example, during the documentary then couldn't play songs longer than a certain point because of copy right issues, but wouldn't u want people to play and show off your music so other will hear it allowing it to grow to new audiences?

In 2008 a rap artist by the name of Birdman was caught and battled lawsuits because of sampling other artists music without paying licensing fees. As a producer, co-founder of Cash Money Records, and a artists himself, Birdman failed to pay these fees and has been enforced by law enforcement to get him and his crew to pay the money he owes.

Even though Birdman has signed many famous artists and has created their careers basically from underneath him self and helped make them who they are today, that doesn't mean he can take anyones music and sample it for his own benefit for himself, and for his artists under his label. I think the action that should be taken is to make him pay whats due and follow the law that surrounds artist to protect them from things like this. Just because someone has high power in the music industry doesn't mean they can be free and take anyones music. For us people who arn't in that industry its hard to get a sample of a song like he can, making it wrong for him to do what he was doing.

Media Blog Project: Budweiser Commercial

     Budweiser Superbowl Commercial: Advertisement

For me, TV isn't something I watch very often or really at all anymore. Being a big sports fan, of course I pay close attention to big games and events. In 2015, the world wide beer company Budweiser created a commercial campaign called #BestBuds. The campaign was a series of commercials every year where they would show a puppy and a horse creating a bond that couldn't be broken. The reason this advertisement caught my attention is because it was touching in a sense. It brought out my feelings for dogs along with just animals in general, now i'm not someone who just loves every animal but being a big dog guy it was pretty dang good. The commercial made me feel a certain way and it stuck with me very clearly even three years later.

The way the add was made was for people to feel love that is portrayed by the friendship of the guy and his dog along with the horse. The 1 minute 2 second long Budweiser advertisement was shown on the day of the 2015 Superbowl where there is no bigger stage for commercials. It first starts with the mans puppy, yellow lab, playing in the horses stable under some hay. The dog then gets into the guys trailer with the horse as they go down town, the dog jumps out of the trailer to seemingly never return. The man puts up signs and posters hoping someone will find his lost dog. The dog now all alone in this crazy world struggles to find home when he runs into a wolf. The dog starts to bark as the wolf growls and snarls at the only few month old lab. Then all of a sudden the horse along with many other horses come running up to the dog to defend it. The horses save the dog and bring him back trotting into the mans farm where he looks out the window and sees that his lost puppy has returned.

The message of the advertisement is hidden well, yet even though it's a beer commercial and should be showing the alcoholic beverage it is know for, it does not what so ever have that feel. The soft touch of a dog and his owner along with the sense of family really makes this add so appealing. When the dog goes missing, you don't want to get up and leave thinking the commercial is boring or its over, it makes you intrigued to see what happens in the end which resulting being good. The add makes your emotions change quick, even being only a minute long. It most definite has the story-telling emotion because of the long but really few second journey of the dog tracking its way home, and how the horse started out not really super close to the dog but in the end they are playing in the field together. Making it that over the time of the dog missing the horse wanted to have his friend back and was happy to have him when they reunited.

Image result for budweiser dog commercial

This add is restively new, since it was only three years ago. Most commercials I see are dramatic and try very hard to catch your eye with maybe bright colors or things you can relate to. For this add specifically, it does not draw your attention like you would think it is very sneaky, but the message and the story behind it is like a small movie. Its very similar emotion wise as the film Home Alone. The dog had to defend for him self and try to make his way back home with out being attacked by the wolf just like how the boy in the movie has to defend for him self and stay away from bad guys trying to kill him. The audience targeted is mainly people who really don't have a lot per say. The farmer lives alone im assuming because there is no one els in the add but him and his animals, it's all he has. People in this world like my grandpa, don't have anyone but his companion dog Jake! Older people feel more for the add then younger also considering you cant drink until your 21 and the add is sponsored and in the end geared towards Budweiser beer. It is definitely pushing towards older men and women above the age of 21. There is no stereotypes in the advertisement because it is just trying to show that losing something you love can be hard. Finding true best friends are tough and you should stick together instead of being alone. Maybe its telling me to finally get a puppy!

Adds nowadays are everywhere, for me its hard to remember adds and to catch attention to what they are trying to get across because its everywhere. This one stuck. The strength of this add was the music, along with how simple it was. There wasn't much going on but the idea of the dog going back home to its owner and friend (the horse). The out door vibe along with the scenery really helps put the dog in the center of the picture and to focus mainly on one thing. What I thought they could have done better was had more of a back round story to how the guy got the dog and how long he had it for. It kind of seemed like he found it out side in the stable but I am not sure, so there is grey area to where the dog really came from and how much they truly bonded, the man and his dog. What makes it so memorable is that the dog seems happy. When seeing something like that with such high emotion it makes us humans feel that and want that in our lives. This connects to not just you or a few people but almost everyone who watches the add.

The video has millions of views and so many other crazy numbers on social from the 2015 add. It is one of their most iconic features about the company from the social media stand point. social media helped put them on top as one of the most infamous beer company's all because of the people on social media able to find the video everywhere.

Article:  "All About That Adorable Budweiser 'Lost Dog' Commercial"

By People.com

Explains that the story behind the add can relate to anyone. “It’s a storyline that people of all walks of life can relate to"(Budweiser vice president Brian Perkins). The add has been talked about every year since its releasing from the impact it left on people. People.come also says that the actor (aka the farmer or man) explained that the song and just the emotion even after watching his own work on the add is amazing, “It does give me chills,” he says. “It’s that song!”(Don Jeanes).
Would I buy beer from Budweiser because of this add? honestly, yes. With out understanding simple knowledge, i would say that Budweiser showed a different stand to advertising when they made this add. It showed me they truly care about other things rather than just trying to cram "drink my beer" down your throat. Not everyone wants to watch beer adds just showing beer so I feel as if the way they approached this was for everyone and it was a good simple idea to help promote for what they truly stand for.
I would recommend looking to this company and what they are all about, I don't condone drinking because I am only 20 and am not of age. But if I could, I would most definitely gravitate towards them more than others and tell people that first hand.

Image result for budweiser dog commercial

In conclusion I learned a lot about looking to just this simple add of a beer commercial. I learned that there is a lot of work put into making a big public add along with the audience they try to attack. When a product is for everyone over 21 they have to make it known that its generally for everyone, you cant leave anyone out. You want people to buy your product not shy away from it. You must make sure it has a clear message along with a strong delivery, in this case it did and it hit you harder that most which is why it is so well known. It surprised me when I looked into this add deeper that its all about money and that to get TV time for a simple commercial cost a lot of money let alone to make it. Its tough to advertise something that people dont really support so making something as a commercial costs a lot of energy and time even if its a 30 second add!

Media Blog 2: Social Media

Topic 1:

Three I chose to follow are:

Twitter: @richthekid
Instagram: @espn
Twitter: @travisscott

I follow these three people/organizations along with favoriting, liking, and retweeting their posts is because they are very inspirational to me, the stuff they tweets along with post travis scott really renders to me and allows me to understand that they are real people even though they are celebrities. It allows me to relate to them even though we are from very different back rounds.

One tweet that I ended up retweeting and favoriting this afternoon was by RichTheKid. The post said, "theres no success without struggle" This stood out to me because it rings true I think to my self and most others. People get to caught up in failing in life and don't allow them selfs to use it as a stepping stone of learning. Struggling in life can allow you to succeed if you view it the right way.

I feel like social media does/has enhanced me to keep me into the loop of society where I cant be. It allows me to communicate to other along with expressing my self freely. For example, when a friend is across the country and they post a picture on Instagram or dm me on Twitter, i am able to keep up with them even though I am in my house not across the world. I enjoy and use social media daily, I do not how ever wish it was like this nor would I ever condone everyone to use social media as much as I or many people do in my generation. I think it's taking over to much of our youth and it allows to many people to be caught up and think the real world is actually like that meaning when someone is rude over the screen of your phone, then thats how the real world is. But it is happily not.

Topic 2:

Talks about how people in society are afraid of conversation because in a face to face conversation, you can not redo, edit, or change what you say. This factor presents its self in a attractive way to those who feel they can say what ever they want. People who feel they can say what every they want use social heavily on a daily basis. Further, Turkle explains in a sense that a line is being blurred between face to face contact appose to sitting behind a screen. with these attractions such as the once's mentioned before "being able to edit, change, take back what you say" people feel that when converting over social media they have no need to meet face to face, "why not just call in 30 seconds instead of driving 30 minutes". What they don't understand is that people are slowly isolating once's self from having face to face contact experiences. This is a crucial element to ones development as a contributing person in our world. "solitude is where you find yourself" (Turkle).
During dinner time at home my mother and father have a rule where there is no cell phones at the table. This rule has been influenced for as long as I can remember. I think this is a great rule because it allows dinner time to be about face to face contact and allows everyone to speak to one another with out any technology distractions. The older I get the more power I see in this and want to keep implementing it more often in other ways!

When it comes to digital gaming I use to be a big call of duty player back in middle school and high school. My phone has no games besides social media and apps to help me with my everyday life like banking and such. Back in the day (like I said in high school & middle school so not to long ago considering I'm only 20) call of duty was the game of choice, so me and all of my friends would play hours on hours day & night grinding to be the best. I enjoyed it so much because it was so fast pace and the level of skill it takes to be the best was never enough, there was always time to compete and get better just like college baseball!

I spend a lot of hours a week on social networking, and sadly I know I do it and shouldn't but i just cant help it! With all the social media platforms it most definitely feels like you are part of a community of some sort. Being able to know things with the click of a button or scrolling up and down seeing things that maybe people haven't and then able to let people know before they have heard or read about, creates the sense of you belong in this ecosystem of knowledge.

Week 1: Intro + Whats Fake News?

Topic 1:

My Name is Chasen Cosner but i go by Chase,
I am here at LB playing baseball along with getting my AAOT to transfer and later become in the field of sports medicine. My goal is to play baseball as long as it allows me to, then having a great carer in helping fellow athletes. I am most interested in learning about really anything in media because i don't know much about it at all. I am someone who has social media like most, other than that I know close to none so I am excited to learn it all. I am very passionate about sports as well as clothing and fashion. I have spent probably to much money on shoes and clothes that are un-needed to me but hey I like what I like!

Topic 2:

My main three sources of information is tough to say. Considering I spend a lot of time on apps and such I would have to say Instagram, Twitter, and mainly TV channels like fox news and K12/CNN. These sources are some what reliable because they of course are in tune to whats going on in the world meaning they having people feeding them constant information. For TV and public feed they inflame problems and story's to sound more "juicy". They want us to think somethings a bigger deal than it really is. Fake news is scary, you never know whats true now days. By looking at the article of Pew Research Center, the amount of information we get that is opinionated that out ways facts by a substantial amount clearly shows you cant trust any sources unless it comes from your self. The steps you can take to figuring out if something is true or not you can first take the info you received and look it up. This then will most likely give you other details and sites giving different ideas. This allows you to then have maybe a general idea of the information.
